About Stage Right!

SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

Founded in 1998 with just 12 students, Stage Right! currently has an enrollment that averages 300+ students year round. The school is based on the tenet that professional artists instructing, mentoring, and working alongside student actors profoundly affects their development. Our students are taught by professionals and then are given the opportunity to work with them on stage. This synergy creates highly successful partnership that nurtures our young actors both on and off the stage.

Our post-graduate students have been accepted into some of the top musical theatre schools in the nation. We have numerous students that have graduated from college, received their Equity card from the Actors' Equity Association, performed in New York and the tri-state area and returned to teach or give a masterclass at Stage Right! We have alumni that are currently performing in theaters, on cruise ships, and are running their own theatre companies.

Our core classes include acting, tap, jazz, voice, ballet, and musical theatre. We have special programs for students on the spectrum and with disabilities, programs for homeschool/cyberschool students, and for the youngest - we have our Music Together® program. Our students range from birth years to 18, and even adults!

Stage Right! also continues its involvement in the Propel Schools in the Pittsburgh Public School System. We provide the musical theatre component in selected elementary and high schools, staffed by professional actors who can teach full time. The project involves developing a curriculum to fit Propel’s needs and Stage Right’s! resources. We then adapt what we consider our product to an inter-city school system.

PROFESSIONAL THEATRE COMPANY

Stage Right! Theatre Company offers top-notch professional theatre and employs 10-20 Equity actors per season. We maintain ten productions throughout the season offering adult productions, student productions and children productions. This gives us the opportunity to appeal to the greatest number of people. The challenge still remains to keep the ticket prices at an affordable rate without sacrificing quality and being true to the mission and standards that are Stage Right!

The theatre component of Stage Right! is charged with producing a show that is artistically challenging for the actors, falls within the budget for the company, and has enough public appeal to sell tickets to our core demographic, a family unit or group with perhaps 2+ children between the ages of 4-12; Family Theatre. This family-friendly audience demands a certain style of production and over the past years, has greatly impacted our theatrical season planning and show choices. We have added several featured shows each year to appeal to this demographic.

STUDENT COMPANY PRODUCTIONS

In additional to 6 professional mainstage-productions we also present 3 full-length Student Company productions. Our January-Feburary production is open to all registered students of Stage Right! and features all of our age groups, 4-18. We currently feature this show at two venues, creating a 'traveling theatre' experience for our students - yet another educational opportunity - touring theatre!

Our 4th Semester Musical Theatre Workshop classes take their skills to the stage! Each age group (Imagination/Pre-School, Pre-teen, and Teen) presents their own, full-length, End-of-Year performance. Students must be a registered student of the Musical Theatre Workshop on Saturdays to be a part of these productions.

Students can gain unmeasurable skills in one (or both!) of our intensive Summer Camps. Camps for ages 8-18 (Pre-teens & Teens) runs for a 3-week session in the month of June and another session in July. Camps for Pre-school and the Spectrum Initiative run for 1 week in August. Our Pre-teen and Teen summer camps feature 3 weeks of classes, masterclasses, guest artist, and a full immersion theatre experience. Students produce a full-length musical in just 3 weeks!  Our 'Stars of Tomorrow' Camp for Pre-school age and our Spectrum Initiative Camp each produce a smaller show as they learn fundamentals of theatre, acting, singing, and dancing.
