Singing Starts at Birth: Stage Right! Welcomes the Youngest Artists to ArtsWalk

Greensburg’s annual ArtsWalk returns on Saturday, April 26, bringing the city’s downtown alive with music, movement, and creativity. Among the many stops on this year’s self-guided walking tour of galleries and performance spaces, one location is offering something special for even the youngest art lovers: babies.

As part of Greensburg’s ArtsWalk on Saturday, April 26, Stage Right! will offer two free Music Together® classes, including one specifically designed for babies from birth to 8 months. It’s a rare opportunity to see arts programming that doesn’t just include young families—but centers around their artistic expression starting from infancy.

“People are often surprised when I say we have babies in our class who are just a few weeks old,” says Candice Gold Wansor, an Early Childhood Music Specialist who will be teaching the Babies class at 12:15 PM that day. “But the truth is, babies are born musical. They’re wired to respond to rhythm and melody—and to connect through sound, voice, and movement. Our classes help nurture that from the very beginning all while supporting the parent in recognizing these first musical expressions and behaviours.”

Music Together® is an internationally recognized early childhood music and movement program that supports social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development through play-based musical experiences. It’s also deeply relational: caregivers sing, bounce, rock, and move with their children—creating strong bonds through shared joy.

For Kelly, a local parent who attends the Babies Class regularly, the impact was immediate. “I was amazed how much my baby responded to the music—even at four months old,” she said. “It was the first thing we did together that felt like it was just for us. It helped me relax and connect with her—and helped her light up.”

The Babies Class is not only developmentally rich, it’s a rare offering in public arts programming. Many events overlook this youngest age group entirely. By welcoming families with infants, Stage Right! is extending a hand to new parents who often feel isolated—and giving them a place in the city’s creative scene.

That sense of connection is echoed by Evelyn, another parent in the Babies Class:

“I loved connecting with other moms and my baby through music at Music Together. Having women going through similar experiences really helped. My baby also loved listening to all the music and voices of the other Moms and Dads and I could tell really looked forward and got excited to go.”

Stage Right! will also offer a Mixed Ages class at 10:30 AM for children 0–5 years old, led by Mr. Paul Reynolds. Both classes are free but require pre-registration due to limited space. Families can sign up here: https://forms.gle/CT6HbqFAxbaKD9Cu8

The Music Together® classes are one of many stops on the ArtsWalk self-guided tour, which invites visitors to explore Greensburg’s vibrant arts community. The event includes exhibitions and performances at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Seton Hill University’s Art Yard, the Incubator for the Arts, and more, with participating businesses throughout downtown joining the celebration.
